MedStar Washington Hospital Center
MedStar Washington Hospital Center is a 912-bed, major teaching and research hospital in our nation’s capital. It is the largest private, not-for-profit hospital in the region, among the 100 largest hospitals in the nation, and a major referral center for treating the most complex cases.
Created in 1958 with the merger of three other D.C. hospitals, and located on a 47-acre campus in Northwest Washington, D.C., the Hospital Center has well over half a million patient visits annually. We offer numerous healthcare services and have nationally respected programs in organ transplantation, cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopaedics, pulmonology, and urology services.
We are nationally recognized for our heart and vascular care through the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute, founded at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and our unique clinical and research alliance with Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute. Also, we operate a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, the first stroke program in the area accredited as such by The Joint Commission, and have the region’s only adult burn center, recognized as a national model in burn care therapies.
